Many of us will face the responsibility of caring for aging family members. No matter how competent and efficient we are in our professional lives, the new role of caregiver is often one we enter unprepared.

"A Most Reluctant Caregiver" relates the personal story of a daughter faced with caring for her difficult, ailing mother. The author entered her early retirement years consumed with caregiving issues of which she knew little or nothing. While struggling to provide her mother with the love, care, and attention that she needed, the author simultaneously had to research and advocate for needed services. Added to those challenges were her mother’s extreme mood swings and undiagnosed depression.

The author's experiences provided her with a first-hand glimpse into the world of elder care, including a look at unwelcomed family stressors, advanced directives, medical care, assisted living facilities, physical rehabilitation, funeral planning, and the sale of her parents’ home.  In the almost three years in which the author cared for her mother, valuable lessons were learned and are offered as practical, everyday tips for those who face similar challenges.
